Doohicky Widget Review – Testing RDFa for Rich Snippets in Search

This is a doohicky widgetFeel free to look at the code if you want to see what I’m doing here. Otherwise this post probably won’t make much sense.

I am writing this Doohicky Widget Review to test out some Resource Description Framework in attributes (RDFa) markup to see if I can get some micro-formating data (i.e. rich snippets) to show up in the Google search results for “Dookicky Widget Review”.

A pretty good widget.
This review gives the doohicky widget 4 out of 5 stars because it proved to be the best widget for the job. Compared to the thingamabob widgets, these dookickies are real show-stoppers. They come highly recommended for the widget-using professional.

This is what the result should look like if Google chooses to show rich snippets in the SERPS for this particular page:

I would love to hear about some more examples, especially any that involve microdata showing up in SERPs for data other than reviews, movie times, people, prices and sports.

  2. One of my old clients finally implemented my reco. and was able to get some microdata listed in the serps. Not sure if this is new to you or not: http://www.google.com/search?q=yankee+tickets&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a (site is gotix.com) ill be curious if you have enough domain authority to get the data you included in this post listed. It can be a bit finicky to get google to use the microdata it seems.

Thanks Brian. That’s a great example. It’s not “new” to me, but has always been something that I would just tell the developers that it needs to be done. I thought for once I would try the implementation myself.

I hope it works on this site as well. If not, I have some more authoritative sites I can try it on.

By the way, I just read your post this morning about getting burnt by putting all your eggs in the Google basket. Good advice.
