Talking Microformats – Embedded SEO Dojo Radio Episode Six
I wanted to share this with my readers, some of which probably already subscribe to the SEO Dojo blog. If you don’t, you should.
In a recent interview someone asked me what I thought were some opportunities that SEOs are missing out on. I mentioned two primary ones: Video SEO (as in showing your own site, not YouTube) and Micro-formatting. For everything you need to know about Video SEO, go get your start at ReelSEO.com . There may be some guy in his robe making millions who doesn’t talk about it, but Mark Robertson is probably the most knowledgeable person out there right now who is actually sharing information.
As for Micro-formatting, there are a lot of great resources out there for this as well. But I found the conversation below to be a good listen. Right around 43-minutes in (yes, you can skip ahead) they start discussing all of the different current and potential uses for Micro-formatting.
It really is a ball that has been dropped by SEOs – including myself, for various reasons. Although you may or may not be able to improve rankings using micro-formats, you can certainly improve CTR from the SERPs. So what’s the hold-up? I think it could have something to do with the fact that we’re all still waiting on some standardization, as well as automation tools to help us do this without writing so much code. What are your thoughts on micro-formatting? Why don’t we see this on every single eCommerce website out there? Why isn’t every single review site using them, including Joe Schmoe’s gadget blog or all of the Mommy Blogs out there?
